РИЛЕМ – одна из старейших международных профессиональных организаций, основанная в июне 1947 года с целью содействия международной кооперации в разработке современных методов исследований строительных материалов. Штаб-квартира РИЛЕМ традиционно находится в Париже.
Основные задачи этого союза – разработка рекомендаций по методам испытаний, создание ноу-хау и аналитических документов по различным отраслям строительной науки. В работу RILEM вовлечены более 1150 экспертов, из которых 800 заняты в его технических комитетах, которые объединены в кластеры по нескольким направлениям: обработка и характеристика материалов; механизмы переноса и разрушения; функциональность и проектирование конструкций; жизненный цикл и экологическая оценка; каменная кладка, древесина и культурное наследие; битумные материалы и полимеры.
Техническими комитетами РИЛЕМ разработано свыше 160 Рекомендаций. Многие из них широко применяются в исследованиях, в практике строительства и используются международными организациями по стандартизации в качестве основы для их работы. Научно-технические отчеты, подготовленные в технических комитетах, представляют собой критическую оценку текущих знаний по специфическим предметам исследований. Они часто заполняют научные пробелы, одновременно предопределяя развитие стратегии и сценарий дальнейших исследований.
Постоянный комитет РИЛЕМ по обучению EAC осуществляет поддержку обучающих программ РИЛЕМ во всем мире. С момента создания РИЛЕМ проводит симпозиумы и рабочие встречи, по результатам которых опубликовано свыше 100 сборников докладов. Активно работает Интернет-портал РИЛЕМ, который предоставляет свободный доступ к большинству публикаций РИЛЕМ, содействует распространению знаний и повышение «видимости» организации в мире. Распространение информации осуществляется RILEM через конференции, симпозиумы, сайт, журнал «Материалы и конструкции» (M&S), индексируемый в WoS и Scopus.
Технические комитеты РИЛЕМ работают по своим планам под контролем Технического наблюдательного комитета, Бюро и Генерального секретариата.
