Association of Structural Concrete

The Association of Structural Concrete of Russia (ASC) is a major non-profit professional organization aimed at developing technology and improving competitive standards of the production and services on the concrete and structural concrete market in Russia. The Association comprises 51 members that are leading producers, engineering and consultancy companies, R&D institutes, specialized media and technological universities. ASC has strong and effective relations with government agencies (such as the Russian Ministry for Production and Commerce) and other national professional entities. ASC represents Russia in the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib), International union of laboratories and experts in construction materials, systems and structures (RILEM), Asian Concrete Federation (ACF), American Concrete Institute (ACI).

Public technical and scientific association “Structural Concrete” was officially registered by the Ministry of Justice in 1993. However, the history of the Association dates back to 1957, when the Academy of Construction and Architecture of the USSR created the Commission for pre-stressed concrete, later reorganized into the National Committee of the International Federation for Prestressing (FIP) chaired by Prof. K. Mikhailov. Later, in 1969, Coordinating Scientific and Technical Council for concrete and reinforced concrete was organized by the State Committee for Construction (Gosstroy) of the USSR. The Council was composed of delegates appointed by over 500 construction organizations. The Council had established close contacts with FIP, Euro-International Concrete Committee (CEB), International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS), RILEM and other international organizations. The activity of the Council was practically discontinued in 1991 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Therefore, in 1991 the National Committee of FIP and the Coordinating Scientific and Technical Council were merged into the Structural Concrete Association. The Association also had included National committees of RILEM and CEB.

Recently, in 2016, the Association became a member of the ACF, a platform for the newly established CIS-RILEM regional group and signed a cooperation agreement with the International Prestressed Hollowcore Association.

The Association has organized more than three dozens of major conferences and congresses. One of the top achievements of the Association has been organizing international conferences on concrete and reinforced concrete, supported by fib, RILEM, American Concrete Institute (ACI) that put together from 600 to 1000 specialists from across the globe, as well as hosting the 59th RILEM Assembly in Moscow in 2005.
The main topics of the activity of the Association are: • an increase of production and use of concrete and reinforced concrete in construction; improvement and development of concrete products and services; • organization of technical trainings and conferences on key issues of concrete and reinforced concrete; • working-out of production standards, recommendations on technology of concrete and reinforced concrete, design and construction guidance; • international cooperation, including activity in international organizations, dissemination of international knowledge and experience, implementation of international standards and recommendations in Russia.

The association is always ready for long-running professional cooperation with representatives of international organizations and businesses to cope with issues of involvement of Russian scientists and civil engineers in the development of the next generation of codes of practice; implementation of software used to make design and calculation with new codes; determination of what another standards need to be implemented foremost; organization of workshops for Russian civil engineers to help them get used to the new system of technical regulation. Currently, the Association with the support of fib is supervising the translation of the fib Model Code – 2010 into Russian accompanied by a series of fib-guided special scientific courses.
